"My purpose is to suggest a cure for the ordinary day-to-day unhappiness from which most people in civilized countries suffer, and which is all the more unbearable because, having no obvious external cause, it appears inescapable." -Bertrand Russell
Here we have a profound intelligence looking into the ordinary problems of daily life. The famous philosopher and mathematician Bertrand Russell wrote The Conquest of Happiness in 1930.
The book therefore is a bit dated in its cultural outlook (see the title of the last chapter for an example), but it remains a very helpful manual for living. It's certainly on my "top 5" list. I suggest looking at the top reviews on Amazon for a better idea of this book's merits.
